ABOUT US – AN UPDATE

2009-2010 marks Year # 6 in the history of the official Junior Women’s League in Manitoba and across Canada. This year we have had an excellent start to Registration for the year and our Camp Tryouts begin Friday, September 11 at 6:00pm and run through the 3 days that weekend of the 11 Sept. to 13 Sept. at Billy Mosienko Arena.

On the Home Page the times are shown and this week the teams (all 6) will be posted on the website. Registration is still open and will remain open for the month. Players of the ages 18 to 21 this league is for you! Graduates of High School and the Midget leagues (both AA and A1) can come to this league reassured that they can continue playing hockey and still attend University and/ or College, work part time and manage busy lives with family and friends. There is 1 practice per week, one to two games on a weekend and plenty of time for “life’, as it is for you. As you know a good healthy workout on the ice and a couple games a week will help clear the head and keep the motor running. What a way to beat the winter!

Cost for the whole season of 50 plus games, practices and tournament games are $780 for 2009-2010 which can be paid over time. I paid more for my daughter when she played high school, so the value is there. Players receive a home and away pair of socks every year, are provided with team (league owned) jerseys, have /certified coaches, an Athletic Therapist at each league game, play with three person officiating crews and play 2 periods of 15 minute hockey and the third period at 20 minutes which is all stop time. This cost also includes the MWJHL wind up and Awards dinner at season end for all players besides a newly designed website and a user friendly Pointstreak for up to date stats on your team and other players.

If you are curious and want to know more about the league contact any executive member and/ or attend the tryouts and games. Talk to our players as they are our best Ambassadors. Special Events this year will be the 6th Annual All Star game, the III Annual Lt. Governor’s Tournament featuring teams from Canada and the USA Feb. 5-7, 2010. The following weekend is something called the Olympics and we will all be cheering for Team Canada in hockey.
